Welcome to my “mini” blog…this has been set up for free using the edublogs service to demonstrate how blogs work.

There are plenty of options if you want to start your own blog; for example you can start a blog in bloglines, at blogger or with edublogs (like this one). There is also a basic blog you can use in Moodle (you can find this by going to your profile).

So setting up a blog isn’t hard, the hard bit is to answer the question “What will I do with my blog?”

I ran a basic blog to communicate with my A-level chemistry students when I was teaching at Sutton Coldfield College. You can have a look at it here . I used it as a tool for communication; my students were all encouraged to subscribe to my blog so that whenever I posted a message (homework reminder, assignment deadline, copy of a document, weblinks etc) they would be notified by email. It seemed to do the trick and certainly helped to improve communication with this group of students.

Here are a couple of links to tips for bloggers ”10 Tips for Bloggers” and another “Ten habits of bloggers that win“
